Employee Highlight – Meet Iccha Sethi

In our Employee Highlight series, we will introduce you to various ObjectRocket Team Members and first up is Iccha Sethi!

Iccha has been programming since she was eight years old and has not stopped since then. When she was in grade school she would look up source code for websites and try to reverse engineer to learn HTML and CSS and build her own site.

She is currently a software developer here at ObjectRocket by Rackspace, and has been a core member on several open source projects. Apart from being passionate about solving software architecture problems, she also likes to speak at conferences and has been a mentor in the Outreachy program.

Iccha is also the founder of Let’s Code Blacksburg!, a not for profit organization for education and has been nominated for regional leadership award by RBTC for the same.

Q: Where are you from?

A: India

Q: What do you do at ObjectRocket?

A: Software Developer, Redis Team

Q: Favorite ObjectRocket Product?

A: Redis 😉

Q: What has been your favorite project at ObjectRocket?

A: Working on HA MySQL.

Q: What have you gained from working at ObjectRocket?

A: 5 pounds, from all the free snacks in the kitchen. (JK)

Q: Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us?

A: I started programming when I was around eight years old.

Q: What advice would you give to recent new hires?

A: 1) Don’t be afraid to take up a task you know nothing about; that’s how you learn, 2) Don’t be afraid to ask questions, 3) Interact with people outside your team.

Q: What book did you read last?

A: Project Phoenix.

Q: What did you want to be when growing up?

A: Either a scientist or a journalist.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: I love working with smart people, on a fun team, solving challenging problems.

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?

A: I love cooking and experimenting with recipes from all around the world. I also like trying out new places to eat and Austin has got plenty of those.

Q: Where would you like to travel to?

A: Everywhere, anywhere in the world.

Q: Would you rather be a tiny elephant or a giant hamster?

A: Tiny elephant for sure!

Q: You’re happiest when?

A: I am eating dessert, preferably something with chocolate in it.
